ABOUT

My name is Jack Jarvis and I recently retired from Fresno Unified after 26 years as a teacher, administrator and coach. I was born in Detroit, Michigan, but have lived in the Valley for over 50 years, growing up in Visalia. I have lived in the Hoover area since 1992. All my daughters attended McCardle Elementary.

I am proud to have worked in Fresno Unified and am running for school board because I want the students in our district to have the best possible education, but are not getting it, despite the best efforts of Fresno Unified's teachers and support staff.

When you work in public education for as long as I have, you live with your work for the rest of your life. Especially now, with social media so prominent in our society. Many of my former students are in contact with me, and some are in their mid-thirties. Many are doing well, while others are struggling to make it through life. Some are not here anymore. There is a part of me that always wishes I could have done a better job for them as a teacher and principal.

I spent years as a supportive parent of McCardle, Awhanee and Hoover. As a result of my various Fresno Unified assignments, I have had interactions across Fresno Unified and am aware of the challenges in other Board districts.

I am married to my wife Dianne, who is an RN. I have had that privilege for almost 35 years.

I believe I can make a significant impact on the Hoover Area and the rest of district as a Board Trustee. While I may have retired from Fresno Unified, I will never leave it or stop trying to help make it better. I hope you will take the time to review my qualifications and positions on the issues we face. I look forward to meeting many more Hoover area parents and students, and will work to gain your support. Please feel free to contact me for any reason.
